khanson3@wisc.edu

EDUCATION

  • B.S. 2005, Oberlin College
    Biochemistry, Neuroscience

RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

  • U of Pittsburgh, Pharmacology Dept, Summer 2004
    Advisor - Jane Cavanaugh, PhD
Project - Looking at the role and mechanism of oxidative stress in neurodegenerative diseases. Used cell death assays to examine toxicity of oxidants and western blots to determine enzymes activated by oxidative stress.
  • Oberlin College, Neuroscience Dept, 9/2003-5/2004
    Advisor - Dennison Smith, PhD
Project - Looking at the effects of sedatives on neurons in the tuberomammillary nucleus of the hypothalamus; included both electrophysiological recording and pharmacological techniques.
  • U of Pittsburgh, Summer 2004
    Advisor - Dr. Jane Cavanaugh
Project - Determining the mechanisms of oxidative stress damage in neurodegenerative diseases
  • Oberlin College, Chemistry Dept, Summer 2002-Summer 2003
    Advisor - Norman C. Craig, Ph.D.
Project - determining the exact structure of the molecule 1,3-butadiene. Began project working on multiple organic syntheses, and finished doing analyses of high-resolution IR spectra.
